News from the States Recognizing Brenda L. Seago, M.L.S., M.A., AHIP, Associate Professor and Director, Computer Based Instruction Lab School of Medicine Medical College of Virginia Campus, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA Linda Watson, Associate Dean and Director of the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library at the University of Virginia has been named as a member of the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Building a 21st Century Community Health Care System in Rural America. The charge to the committee is to assess the quality of health care in rural America and develop a conceptual framework for a core set of services and the essential infrastructure (including information and communication technology) necessary to deliver those services to rural communities. Additional information about the work of the Committee can be found at http://www.iom.edu/project.asp?id=13989 From West Virginia University Health Sciences Charleston Division, Charleston WV: "Our School of Nursing, as of August 2003, is offering their RN-MSN program totally online. Using a technology of Webcasting, funded through a major grant from Mediasite Live, lectures are delivered both live through the web and archived for later viewing by students. As part of this effort, the library was asked to deliver it's annual orientation and initial database training via Webcast this year and it proved to be a delightful experience for the library staff using this fascinating technology." Patricia F. Dawson, MSLS, MPA, and Web Master, states: "We look forward to doing even more of this type of training in the future, including training on EbscoHost, Full-Text Resources, and other library services and resources."
