Message from the Chair
By Jonathan Lord, MAC Chair

Happy New Year to everyone! As I write this message, preparations are under way for the MAC Executive Board meeting on February 2, 2001 in Charlottesville Virginia. The focus of our meeting will be planning ways to implement the various recommendations made by last year's Financial Planning, Records, and Strategic Planning Task Forces. The task force reports were presented at the annual business meeting, and the reports will be available on the MAC Web page. I am presently in the process of appointing an Annual Meeting task force to examine all aspects of our present annual meeting process, including costs, locations, and possible alternatives for providing networking and continuing education opportunities for our members. Closely related to the Annual Meeting task force's charge will be the continued work of the Strategic Planning task force in doing a needs assessment survey to determine how MAC can best serve the needs of its members in the future. This will be the first step towards the formulation of a new strategic plan for the Chapter.

A program committee for this year's annual meeting in Ocean City, Maryland has been formed, with Janice Kelly as Chair. The Local Arrangements Committee for the annual meeting is being co-Chaired by Beverly Gresehover, Ellen Lindenbaum, and Joanne Sullivan. You will be hearing more from these hard-working individuals in the coming months!

On the national front, MAC has entered the MACLend project in the MLA competition for the Majors Chapter Project of the Year award. In May, Carol Jenkins will become MLA President at the MLA Annual Meeting in Orlando. In what appears to be a trend, congratulations are due to Linda Watson on her recent election as Carol's successor in the office of MLA President! Linda will assume the duties of MLA President-Elect at the MLA annual meeting in May.

I would like to encourage any MAC members who are not on the MACMLA-L electronic mail list to join. In additional to MAC Messages, and the MAC Website, the email list is a key means of communication between the Executive Board and all members. Instructions for joining the list can be found at http://www.cbil.vcu.edu/mac/mailing.html.
