From the Washington Post Saturday, May 19, 2001; Cecilia C. Durkin Cecilia C. Durkin, 56, a librarian at the National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine, where she worked on consumer health outreach projects, died of lung cancer May 14 at her home in Vienna. Mrs. Durkin joined the library last year as a consumer health librarian in its national network office. From 1986 to 2000, she was a medical librarian with Fairfax and then Arlington hospitals and then with American Medical Laboratories Inc. She compiled "Consumer Health: A Guide to Internet Information Resources," published by the Medical Library Association, and contributed to medical library journals. She was a member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, the Medical Library Association and Beta Phi Mu, a library and information-studies honor society. Mrs. Durkin was born in Washington and graduated from Marymount High School in Arlington. She was a 1966 graduate of Catholic University, where she also received a master's degree in library science. Survivors include her husband, John Durkin of Vienna; a son, Michael, of Winchester; and two daughters, Melanie el-Sabaawi of Cairo and Laura Domschke of Manassas. Go to the previous article |
