By Mona Thiss, Honors and Awards Committee Maggie Demchuk Maggie Demchuk retired on Sept. 1, 2000 after 13 years as a reference librarian at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. Prior to EVMS, Maggie held librarian positions at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, VA and at the Portsmouth Psychiatric Center in Portsmouth, VA. Since receiving her MSLS from the Catholic University of America in 1981, Maggie has been professionally active on a local, regional, and national level. Some of her activities included serving as Chair and Chair-Elect of MAC; Chair of the Strategic Planning Taskforce; Chair of the Professional Development Committee; and Nominee to the MLA Nominating Committee. As a distinguished member of MLA she served on the MLA Continuing Education Committee from 1993-1996 and received the MLA Continuing Education Award in 1992. Among her other awards, Maggie received the MAC Marguerite Abel Service Recognition Award in 1993 and the MAC Service Recognition Award in 1991. Her retirement plans include volunteer work, travel, and time with the new grandbaby.
