MLA Benchmarking Update
By Sara Wright, Outgoing MAC Benchmarking Chapter Educator

As the outgoing MAC Benchmarking Chapter Educator (BCE), I wanted to give you a quick update on the status of the MLA Benchmarking Initiative. In just a few weeks, the database will be open for data entry by all hospital libraries. Announcements will be made by MLA and on the MAC listserv as to the exact date. The database will be open for approximately 3 months. After that time, and after the data has been analyzed, reports will be developed for the various elements in the database. If you would like additional information on the benchmarking database, please go to the MLA Website at www.mlanet.org.

At the meeting in Ocean City, I distributed handouts on the benchmarking database: 1) Benchmarking Network Implementation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), 2) How to Best Approach the Benchmarking Survey Tool: Top Ten Things to Do, and 3) a draft of a letter written by Carol Jenkins, President, MLA, to supervisors of Benchmarking Database participants. If you would like copies of the three handouts, please contact me. I can send them in paper copy, or send electronic copies (Word and PDF format). I can be reached at wrightst@arlhosp.org or (703) 558-6524.

Finally, MAC has a new Benchmarking Chapter Educator! Merle Colglazier, at Bon Secours Richmond Health System, will be taking over this position. Merle can be reached at (804) 281-8247 or merle_colglazier@bshsi.com. Please feel free to contact him with questions you have regarding the Benchmarking Database.

Again, if you would like copies of the handouts from the meeting, please contact me and I will send the copies to you.

Thank you.
