Our purpose is:

• To promote an understanding of the health sciences librarian's role and unique abilities in the management of knowledge-based information, and to elicit strong support within the Virginia health care system for the mission of health sciences libraries.
  
  
• To develop and strengthen the knowledge and skills needed by member librarians to meet the patient care, research, and educational needs of Virginia's health care providers. This will be achieved by providing programs of continuing education and professional development.
  
  
• To foster and strengthen information exchange and resources among VaCOHSL members and within the larger consortia and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
  
  
• To serve as a resource and representative of health sciences library and information needs to federal, state, and local governments as well as other groups concerned with the promotion of health information.
